Letter : Fort Rice, Dakota Territory, to Major General Benjamin F. Butler, 1864 Dec 8.

Holograph letter, Dimon's copy, sent to Major General Butler reporting on his command and suggesting that the government's Indian policies be reformed. He points out that the policies of the Indian Bureau and the War Department are at odds, with Indian agents and traders driving the Indians to the point of war, and suggests that trade with the Indians be put under military management. He also deplores efforts to remove General Alfred Sully from his post.
